I was sixteen when I became a mother, frightened enough to believe my life was already over. My parents made the decisions, papers were signed, and I left the hospital without my baby. Twenty-one years later, my daughter found me while working near the hospital. She approached my table and whispered my name. Fear took over, and I rejected her before she could explain.
